The road to Galle

Some photos to help tell the story today…

A handful of pictures left behind for a fisherman and his family. The English couple that took these photos spent a couple of days helping the family and gave them a good sum of money before traveling on.
About 2 hours South of Colombo we stopped at Peraliya, one of many towns along the coastline hit hard by the Tsunami. In one quarter mile stretch of road 168 families lost 208 people to the waves. From talking with the local fishermen it was apparent that in this case the Danish and several foreign travelers have done the most to help this community.

What does $120 U.S. buy?

In our case, a counter full of school and art supplies. We stopped at a small bookstore today and purchased pencils, notebooks, pens, pastels, sketch paper, etc…enough to supply 35 children. Tomorrow morning we’ll set out on foot to a temporary housing area we passed earlier today and distribute the supplies to families with children.
